The entire Live program has always been quite unstable in my experience too, so I wonder how bitwig compares in this respect? Max4Live has always been super buggy in my experience as well, and I've rarely been able to get this to work. I suppose I've gotten used to the feel, and the flow of the program, as well as some of the inbuilt functionality, but tbh it's always been a big disappointment in the things that matter, and I've always tended just to use external VSTs anyway. I don't quite know what exactly it is about ableton that I'd so miss. I'm wondering now whether it really would be worth the move? I don't really know the ins and outs of the engineering behind DAWs, so I'm a little hesitant to just move - the aesthetic difference is a real big weight for me for some reason haha! I've never heard of Bitwig before, and it seems like being founded in 2014, back when I first bought live in 2015, it would still have been quite niche.

I was under the assumption all DAWs other than Ableton Live, FL Studio, and Logic were pretty trash (at least for bedroom producers, as I believe Pro Tools is still the industry standard although I wouldn't consider switching to that). Seeing that ableton live 11 doesn't have linux support, I was looking around just in case there are any others that do, and was surprised to find Bitwig that seems to have a decent rep.

Competition is always good and brings benefits for everyone, eventually.I've been wanting to move from windows to linux for a long time now. And there are even cheaper, but good quality alternatives like Reaper are Renoise 3.0.ĭon’t get me wrong, I wish good luck for them, and hope that they have really good financial backing. FL Studio is also a lot cheaper as is Studio One. Compare that price to Logic X which includes some really good stuff, and it costs half of that.

That is a really high price for a basic DAW that does not include extravagant sound libraries or software instruments. It has some nice new features, but it is very probable that other DAWs will see those same features in the near future.Īlso, their pricing scheme is weird – 400 bucks/300 euros. would abandon their workhorse on the whim.īesides, from technological point of view, Bitwig is far from revolutionary. I strongly doubt that people who have invested time and money on Ableton Live, Pro Tools, FL Studio, Logic etc. So, their only potential customers are those beginners who have not yet established their work routines, or who are disappointed in their current DAW. Very few, if any, would even consider changing their DAW suddenly, just because there is lots of hype. Most people stick to the gear that works for them, whether it is hardware or software. A demo version is also available.įrom purely commercial point of view, I do not think that Bitwig has much of a chance.
